Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz, Fethiye

A lagoon where the sea is still, the mountains rise, and the sky stretches wide. Beneath Babadağ’s cliffs, that is Ölüdeniz. The Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz captures the spirit of this landscape — calm below, wide open above.

Ölüdeniz, meaning “dead sea,” takes its name from the still waters of its lagoon, untouched by waves even in rough weather. Surrounded by Babadağ, Butterfly Valley, Kabak Bay, and the Mediterranean, it is one of Turkey’s most distinctive coastal landscapes. The lagoon, now a protected National Park, remains closed to yachts, allowing only pedalos and paddleboards. Along the shore, private beach clubs and glamping-style cabins offer a secluded retreat.

The region’s history traces back to Lycian civilization, with rock tombs and ruins scattered along the coast. The first Christian settlers are believed to have arrived around 50 AD during the time of St. Paul, establishing churches throughout the area. Over time, earthquakes, sea raids, and urban development led to the destruction of most of these structures. Kayaköy, a nearby abandoned Greek village, remains as one of the last traces of this past.

Beyond its history, Ölüdeniz is known for its landscapes and outdoor activities. Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz is one of the most sought-after adventures in the region. Launching from Babadağ Mountain — one of the world’s highest commercial takeoff points — offers uninterrupted aerial views of the coastline during a tandem paragliding flight from Babadağ.

Butterfly Valley and Kabak Bay, accessible only by boat or hike, remain isolated with sheer cliffs enclosing their shores. The waters of Ölüdeniz, known for their clarity, provide ideal conditions for diving, snorkeling, and sailing. The main beach offers a place to swim and relax with views of the open sea and the lagoon.

Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz – A Majestic View from Above

What to Expect from Your Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz

Paragliding in Ölüdeniz begins at Babadağ, with launch sites at 1200, 1700, 1800, and 1900 meters, selected based on wind conditions. After a short preparation, participants take off in a tandem flight with a professional pilot, enjoying a guided flight with licensed pilots throughout the experience. A few steps on the launch pad are all it takes before the glider lifts into the air, opening to panoramic aerial views of the Ölüdeniz coastline below. The flight lasts approximately 25 minutes, depending on thermal currents. Those seeking a more intense experience can request acrobatic maneuvers or briefly take control of the glider under the pilot’s supervision, making the experience ideal for first-time paragliders.

All flights are conducted by licensed pilots with over 10 years of experience. A paragliding certificate is provided at the end of the flight. Camera recordings during the Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz are subject to an additional fee, with videos copied directly to participants’ phones after landing at Ölüdeniz Beach.

Flights take place between 11:00 and 16:00, with scheduled departures at 13:00, 15:00, and 17:00. The maximum weight limit is 120 kg. Participants should not have vertigo or a fear of heights. Sports shoes and sunglasses are required, and in cooler months, a jacket is recommended.

The Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz includes Babadağ National Park entry fees, mountain transfer, insurance, and all necessary equipment. All safety protocols are strictly followed.

The Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz can be added on day six of the Mediterranean & Lycian Heritage Tour. It may also be booked independently as an optional activity during your leisure time in the region. Whether you’re seeking adrenaline, awe-inspiring views, or a peaceful glide through the sky, the Paragliding Experience in Ölüdeniz offers a rare chance to see the coastline from above, with nothing between you and the sea but air.
