Overview

15-Day Turkey Tour: Istanbul, Cappadocia & Mesopotamia

This 15-day private tour connects Istanbul, Cappadocia, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, and Mount Nemrut through a carefully planned route across Turkey. Imperial heritage, archaeological sites, distinctive landscapes, regional cuisine, and living cultural traditions come together in one journey designed to reveal the country’s different historical and cultural regions rather than simply its most famous landmarks.

As part of our wider collection of Private Turkey Tours, the itinerary combines private transportation, licensed local guiding, and enough time in each region to experience its character rather than simply pass through it. The route gradually moves from the imperial history of Istanbul through Cappadocia and into the archaeological and cultural landscapes of Southeastern Turkey.

From Istanbul to Cappadocia

The journey begins with four nights in Istanbul, where Byzantine and Ottoman heritage forms the foundation of the experience. Topkapı Palace and the Imperial Harem, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Hippodrome, and Grand Bazaar introduce the city’s Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman layers, while Chora Church (Kariye Mosque) adds another perspective through its exceptional Byzantine mosaics and frescoes. A traditional Turkish bath and a private sunset cruise on the Bosphorus then bring architecture and history into balance with more experiential aspects of Istanbul.

From Istanbul, the route continues to Cappadocia, where three nights allow the region to be explored without constantly changing hotels. Underground cities, rock-cut churches, traditional villages, archaeological sites, valleys, local cuisine, and regional wine culture reveal a landscape shaped by both nature and centuries of human settlement.

The Cappadocia section combines major landmarks such as the Göreme Open Air Museum and Kaymaklı Underground City with quieter places including Mustafapaşa, Cemil, Keşlik, Sobesos, and Soğanlı. Local cooking, wine tasting, walking, and traditional craftsmanship add a living cultural dimension to the archaeological heritage.

From Cappadocia to Southeastern Türkiye

The journey then moves south through the Taurus Mountains toward Gaziantep, creating a natural transition from Central Anatolia to Southeastern Turkey. Gaziantep introduces the region through the Zeugma Mosaic Museum, historic markets, traditional craftsmanship, and its distinctive culinary culture.

From Gaziantep, the route follows the Euphrates toward Halfeti before continuing to Şanlıurfa and Göbeklitepe. Here, prehistoric archaeology, religious traditions, local markets, music, and regional cuisine reveal a cultural landscape whose history reaches far beyond the classical and Roman periods.

Mardin, Mesopotamia & Mount Nemrut

The final section focuses on Mardin and the wider Mesopotamian landscape. Three nights in the region allow time for Mardin, Dara, Midyat, and Mor Gabriel Monastery, connecting ancient settlements and trade routes with the living traditions of Southeastern Turkey.

The journey concludes around Mount Nemrut, where Perre, Karakuş Tumulus, Cendere Bridge, Arsameia, and the monumental statues of the Kingdom of Commagene form the final archaeological chapter of the tour. Sunrise at Mount Nemrut provides a natural conclusion after two weeks of moving through different civilizations, landscapes, and cultural traditions.

The itinerary is particularly suited to travelers who want to understand Turkey through its regional diversity rather than concentrating on a single destination. Its 15-day format allows major archaeological sites to be balanced with local experiences, nature, gastronomy, and slower cultural exploration, while private travel provides the flexibility to adjust the pace according to individual interests and conditions.
